Customers are mixed about the flow of the water pump. Some mention that it siphons at a good rate, while others say that it would not maintain the flow for more than a few seconds. The product is an excellent tool to empty the water from your toilet before winterizing, and it keeps a steady flow running out. However, some customers say that the pump really doesn't siphon well, and that they need to constantly pump to get a continuous stream.
"...Advantage of priming is less squeezing/releasing bulb and liquid transfers much faster. Either way, first close cap on top of bulb...." Read more

Customers are mixed about the suction of the water pump. Some mention that the sucession power is great and it's easy to use, while others say that they could not directly get enough suction to start the process, had to manually fill the tube, and that the suction line is too short for any practical transferring.
"...When you use the pump, air immediately intrudes, breaks suction, and makes a consistent flow impossible...." Read more
"Wish suction tube was longer. Other than that it’s works well" Read more
"This is a great product and very inexpensive. I was able to achieve suction very easily and emptied a 4 gallon tank on my generator in about 3..." Read more
"...Note the suction tube is not very long, so if you are trying to syphon gas out of a deeper tank/item, it's not going to work well for you!" Read more
Customers have reported issues with air leakage in the water pump. They mention that the air leak "breaks" the siphon and the liquid stops flowing after 20 or 30 minutes. Some customers also mention that kerosene is leaking out of the bulb and spills.
"...This is not weak siphon. It is simply liquid running out of bulb, which is slow and takes some time.2.) Priming...." Read more
"...for years, however, that one does not hold a siphon as it leaks air near the bulb...." Read more
"...When you use the pump, air immediately intrudes, breaks suction, and makes a consistent flow impossible...." Read more
"...tank wasn't venting with the on/off switch on the vacuum bulb and spilled fuel. I still rated the pump 4 stars as it could be operator error...." Read more
Customers are dissatisfied with the size of the water pump. They mention that the hose is too short, the intake tube is short, and the drain hose portion is not as long as it should be to ease the syphoning process. Some customers also mention that it works fine, but the flexible hose does not reach the ground. Overall, customers are disappointed with the length of the pump.
"This is a good product, but the intake tube is somewhat shorter than my previous pump which wore out after several years...." Read more
"Shaft is too short won’t reach the bottom of a 5 gallon can." Read more
"...ok but the hose that goes into the liquid should be longer, it is way to short." Read more
"worked ok, but intake tube is short..." Read more

Shorter stiff tube (source tube) goes into source. Longer flexible tube (dispensing tube) goes into destination.
There are two ways to use this siphon/pump. Advantage of priming is less squeezing/releasing bulb and liquid transfers much faster. Either way, first close cap on top of bulb. Also, if liquid is dangerous, wear safety glasses and gloves on both hands.
1.) Manually.
Repeatedly squeeze/release bulb. Depending upon how much bulb is squeezed, it might take 3 to 6 squeeze/release cycles before liquid starts to transfer. If after 8 to 10 squeeze/release cycles nothing is transferred, squeeze/release bulb faster, make sure cap on top of bulb is closed, and make sure source tube is in liquid. Once transfer starts, each time bulb is squeezed/released some liquid is transferred. Continue squeezing/releasing bulb until transfer is finished.
NOTE: It may appear that weak siphon develops which then stops. This is not weak siphon. It is simply liquid running out of bulb, which is slow and takes some time.
2.) Priming.
WARNING: First read entire priming instruction before starting.
Place finger over end of dispensing tube and do not remove finger until instructed to do so. Slowly squeeze/release bulb and let liquid fill dispensing tube. Repeat slowly squeeze/release bulb until dispensing tube is filled with liquid. Depending upon how much bulb is squeezed, it might take 10 to 15 squeeze/release cycles to fill dispensing tube. Slowly squeeze/release bulb one more time to make sure all air is gone. All air is gone (and therefore system is fully primed) when bulb becomes full of fluid, which makes it stiff and harder to squeeze. Remove finger from end of dispensing tube. Liquid is transferred via siphon.
NOTE: During priming, finger is over end of dispensing tube, source tube is in liquid to transfer, and bulb is squeezed, which creates pressure. Do not squeeze bulb so fast that too much pressure builds up and liquid squirts out of siphon/pump seals and/or siphon/pump comes apart or breaks, squirting liquid everywhere, which could be harmful if liquid is dangerous. So slowly squeeze/release bulb until bulb becomes full and stiffer and harder to squeeze, at which time system is fully primed and you can remove finger from end of dispensing tube.
